5 things you can do today to improve your life

Changing your life doesn’t have to be hard. Do these five simple things today and you’ll be on track to a happier, healthier you.

1.    Get up early

That’s right. Rise and shine. With most of us sitting at our desks by 9am, the early morning can be the only time we really have to ourselves. Use it to plan your day, to exercise, to pray and meditate or simply enjoy the time with your loved ones.

Rushing out the door is a terrible way to start your day. Instead, set your alarm an hour earlier than you usually do and be grateful for the gift of time.

2.    Make your bed

This should be the first thing you do upon awakening. It will give you a sense or purpose and make you feel like you’re getting things done (which is always a great feeling). Setting up your mind to get on with jobs that aren’t necessarily enjoyable is an important daily discipline. Now go make your bed.

3.    Drink water

Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Most of us wake up dehydrated after sleep, so it’s important to start hydrating your body as soon as you wake up. You should also sip water throughout the day, aiming to consumer around two to three litres by the time you go to bed.

4.    Get some exercise
You don’t need to go crazy. Just get out and do something for 30 minutes (or an hour if you have the time). It could be a morning walk, a run, a lunchtime workout or an evening swim. It doesn’t really matter how you do it or when. The point is to get your body moving and your heart pumping. Particularly if you spend up to eight hours in front of a computer screen.

5.    Get an early night

If you’ve woken up early, made your bed, drank plenty of water and managed to hit the gym then give yourself the ultimate gift: a good night’s rest. This will allow you the recovery time to begin another great day tomorrow!
